"This artist-in-residence project has been planned by the artists themselves. During a three-week residency in Santiniketan, West Bengal, where Rabindranath Tagor and Okakura Tenshin talked over the Orient and its arts around a century ago, eight contemporary Japanese artists are to review them, communicating with villagers and tribal people and exchanging their own feelings and aesthetics with theirs. They also seek to make their own interpretations of the relationship between the environment and arts, staying with the locals and making their works. The results of this project are to be exhibited both at Santiniketan and New Delhi's Japan Foundation.
